Clark was reading the latest edition of the Daily Planet as he walked through the basement bullpen with a cup of coffee. He had a small article on the bottom of the first page. He was finally coming inot his own as a reporter. Chloe had groomed him well at The Torch.

He had some papers on his desk, his assignments for the day. He put the paper in his top drawer which consisted of Lois rules of journalism she gave him on his first day. It was framed. Something even she didnt' know of. Weird considering they were dating for a couple years now.

He looked up and saw Lois walking to her desk with her coffee.

"Morning Lois."

6:47 pm - Battle plans and the battle...
THE DAILY PLANET
October 21, 2008
MIDNIGHT

The elevator dinged and all eyes turned to the elevator doors as Xander Harris stepped out of. He had this HUGE grin on his face. Knowing him he was all too happy to be stepping foot in what he called the “infamous Daily Planet.”

It was late and we were all at the Planet. I called a meeting so we could discuss a plan of action to take out Brainiac. We had some new Intel that was quickly zeroing in on Brainiac.

“Hey Clark,” he said joining us at me and Lois’ joining desks. “Ladies.”

He gave Lois, Kara, and Chloe a smile.

“You’ve been hard to reach lately,” Lois said with her arms folded. “Been trying to avoid me?”

“Avoid you? Always,” he joked. “SO, what’s the sitch?”

Chloe gave him a copy of a printout she had given me earlier.

“Brainiac has been busy. These red marks are power plants he’s hit in the last week. He’s charging up. Maybe for something big,” I told him.

Chloe pointed out something on the paper for him. “Notice how all the plants seem to be in an almost linear position. But he’s also hitting anything with generators. Construction yards, old buildings, everything.”

“We think he’s either preparing for something. Or…” Lois trailed off.

“He’s doing it to stay alive. Repairing himself from the damage caused when I destroyed him the last time,” I finished.

“We have a few ideas of where he’ll go next. The time between each place is pretty consistent,” Kara added.

“Great,” Xander stated. “So, what do you need for me? Between Team Kent, Lois and her Doctor Who weaponry, and of course the brilliant mind of Chloe Sullivan…much like with Buffy…I’m not going to be any help.”

“Actually we do need your help,” Kara said. “Clark says you know about Brainiac from your world right?”

He nodded. “Yeah.”

“ We can slow him down, but we don’t know how to stop him completely. We thought maybe you had an idea or two of how to stop him.”

It was more question than statement.

“We thought about getting the disembodied voice to giving us a Phantom Zone thing, but Clarky here is against it,” Lois said.

I rolled my eyes. I hated it when she called me that.

“Actually, Clarky here is right on that one. Brainiac knows everything about that place. Think if I remember correctly, even helped create it. Odds are he might know a backway out. He could also bring out some Big Bad Zoners out with him. Which you really don’t want to happen,” Xander said seriously.

“Is there something, ANYTHING you might know about him the help us stop him,” I asked.

All eyes turned to Xander.

Xander leaned against Chloe’s desk rubbing his eyes.

“Of all the villains, he’s the most difficult to kill. He’s not an alien or monster or some typical badass super-villian. He’s a highly advanced artificial intelligence from a very advanced planet. My nerd skills run pretty dry because he can’t be stopped. At least not entirely.”

“What do you mean not entirely,” Lois asked.

“You might not be able to kill him because much like the lame horror movies of the 80s…they always tend to come back again somehow. I suggest you do something pretty big. Leave nothing behind.”

“We can overload his circuits, maybe that’ll blow his fuse,” Clark suggested.

“Could work. In theory,” Chloe said.

“Just hope he doesn’t go all Terminator 2 on us,” Lois replied.

Kara looked confused.

“Movie. Evil robot got blowed up and liquefied back to normal in the heat,” Xander explained for her.

She nodded still not fully getting it. She was still new to this world and hasn’t gotten to see enough to get the various pop culture references Xander, Lois, and Chloe were famous for.

“So, when do we strike as it were,” Xander asked. “Cause no way I’m not helping on this. Here to see it through to the end. Plus, you guys are my friends. Can’t turn my back and let you go at this alone.

“Tomorrow,” I said with determination. “If we’re right he’ll be in Metropolis again.”

“Have a plan there Smallville,” Lois asked.

I nodded. “Everyone has jobs to do. So, here’s how its going to lay out,” I started taking charge.

7:53 pm - A New Path Begins...
I sat across from his desk waiting as he read the form.

"So, you wrote for The Torch. And that was it? Mr. Kent, we are The Daily Planet," current editor John Hamilton said standing up and looking out the window at the city of Metropolis. He turend and looked at me. "Your friend Chloe works for us. She does good work, but you Mr. Kent did hard hitting peices for that school paper...'School to get new gym mats,' 'Career Fair Comes To Smallville High,' and my personal favorite, the lunch menu. You're keen skills of copying that is nothing short of amazing."

He was mocking me wasn't he.

"Look, I know I lack experience. And I'm not asking for a job upstairs, I'm just interested in the internship position. For a long time, I've always wanted to learn the truth behind things. I know if you give me a chance I can proove myself to you."

He sat back down and flipped through my application and some of the work I brought from old Torch papers.

"Mr. Kent, if I had it my way, you'd be walking out that door right now asking if your car could be validated."

"You said if."

"Seems you have some friends upstairs. Perry White, been with us for a few years. Gunning for my job...he remembered meeting you in Smallville. Said you had a lot of potential. Plus, you have a glowing recommendation from not one, but two reporters in the basement. And since they have so much trust in you, I'll be leaving you in their care."

"Thank you Mr. Hamilton," I said standing and shaking his hand. "You won't regret it."

"For the sake of your friends, I hope not. Welcome to the Daily Planet Mr. Kent."

3:17 pm - Xander's visiting...oh and i fought Brainiac...
"Thanks Kara," he hung up the phone. "She's going to take off early and head to the Planet. Keep a close eye on Lois and Chloe. Look Xander, I know you want to help, but I think maybe you should go home and after we deal with this you can come back."

"And what? You're gonna send Chloe and Lois with me too? They're going to want to help and so do I. There uh, is one person we could ask for help."

"No."

"Clark. While I may agree with you on many things, I really think you need to listen to Lois on this one. We'll just be smart about it."

"I'm not going to Lex Luthor."

"Clark, didn't you tell me Jor-El didn't know a way to find him? Lex might be able to track him. After that fight, there's a chance he needs to recharge or something."

"Xander..."

"Clark listen to me. And I mean really listen. Sometimes you have to go to the person you hate for the greater good. Believe me I know. Back in high school Buffy was prophesized to die. And I went to Angel. Her great love, my nemisis, the guy who I hated more than anything for help to go to the Masters lair. The fate of the world is in your hands Clark, its only a matter of time before Brainiac retaliates and someone you love will be in danger. You have to go to Lex and ask for his help."

"I know."

"Just don't give too much information if you still dont trust him. Just say you saw Fine and need help finding him."

"I really don't want to do this."

"I didn't want to go to Angel either. But for the people we love, we have to do what we dont want to do sometimes."

I sighed. He was right.

"I'll be back."

I super sped it to Lex's mansion, stopping at the security gate. Saying a phrase I had not uttered in a very long time.

"I'm here to see Lex."

9:34 pm
So, my friend Xander is going to be visiting for a while soon. Taking a two week vacation and he wants to come to the farm.

Have no objections.

Mostly cause a good bit of my day, I'm hanging around women all day. Not the worst thing, but you need some male bonding or you'll go a little crazy.

Speaking of crazy...things with Lois are still going strong. Feels good being with someone I don't have to lie to. She encourages me and still busts my chops every second she gets.

One of the many reasons I love her.

She knows about me and my abilities, and still treats me the same she did before finding out.

Kara's adjusting well to life here in Smallville. Been here almost a year. She's got a good job at The Talon, helps out on the farm, gets along well with every one.

*hears a high pitched hum*

I...gotta go.

5:57 pm - My life in a nutshell...
I'm from another planet.

I have superpowers.

I save the people in my life when their in trouble...especially one in particular.

Lois Lane.

I'm dating her. She's incredible.

Drives me crazier than I ever thought possible...but I still love her.

No secrets from her.

Often frequent a cafe where I have many friends who know about me: Buffy and Xander, and a slew of others that I trust.

Still finding my way through this crazy world and my place in it.
